My goal was to run under 1 hour... and with a furious kick... I made it!

My training leading up to the race went well. I did a lot of hill training and a fair amount of tempo and speed work.

We stayed in the race hotel by the river which made race morning so much less stressful.

I was still feeling pretty good early in the race coming down off the Main Street Bridge:

I had a little rough patch at mile 4 and had to work really hard to stay on-pace for the next couple miles. I grabbed water at every aid station, sipping a little and then using it to cool myself down.

The top of the Green Monster was obscured by clouds. It was very humid!

Even though I was over the crest, it was hard to really get moving again.

My chip time was 59:47, averaging 6:24 per mile. I finished 163rd male, 197th finisher out of over 10,300 total.

The Gate River Run 15k race was held on March 5, 2022. Race results are available at:

I enjoyed a well-deserved beer and steak that evening. It was a nice, lovely, breezy evening to bask in my accomplishment.
