We stayed at the Wyndham Rio Mar Beach Resort which is perfectly located near San Juan, the northeast coast beaches (and ferry to Isla de Culebra), bio-luminescent bay kayak trips, and El Yunque National Rainforest.
We had an awesome view from our room:
One day during our stay, we took the ferry over to the Island of Culebra:
Boats near the Culebra ferry dock:
This is me at Playa Flamenco on the north side of Culebra. The dark patches in the water are coral reefs and we were able to walk out to them and look straight down into the water at the fish:
I discovered a very interesting tank on the beach:
The tank is also on Google maps!

While waiting for the ferry, one of the locals recommended a nice place for gringos... Mamacita's Bar and Grill:
Here I enjoyed an ice-cold Medalla Light, which is actually a nice and tasty beer. It was great to get a beer for two bucks rather than the seven dollars we were charged at the resort!
I nearly stepped on these tiny sea urchins near the beach at the harbor. Glad I was wearing my sandals:

I'm also a runner considering buying the Altra Instinct for my next road shoes, so it was good to see your review and how much you liked them. Check out my site theRunningBran.com if you're interested!
